The Seventh-day Adventist Church has a special mission to preach the good news of salvation to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people (Revelation 14:6). In reaching people from various backgrounds, we are reminded that “lessons must be given in the language of humanity” (The Desire of Ages, p. 34). For this reason, the General Conference Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Department has initiated the Reaching & Winning series of courses on world religions.
This Reaching & Winning study guide examines what Buddhists believe and how Christians can live and speak God’s love and truth among them. It is written in the context of Southeast Asian Buddhism. Within these countries there is a great variety of beliefs and practices. This variety reminds us that every person has his or her own unique experience. We must take time to listen carefully and understand a person’s beliefs, thoughts and feelings. Only then will we know how to be a true friend and how to lead the person into a relationship with God.
This course is designed to be taught in five classes. Each class is planned to be between one and a half and two hours in length, including small-group sessions. It may also be studied personally.
